My Story

A few weeks before my mammogram, there was a strange pain in my breasts. This discomfort started when my daughter accidentally ran into my left breast when I picked her up from school, and I initially thought it was related to that incident. However, both of my breasts were hurting, not just the left one that her head had collided with.

There was a delay in receiving the results after undergoing a biopsy and ultrasound, but God revealed to me in a dream that the tests were positive for breast cancer. I was told that I would need to have a mastectomy on my left breast and undergo chemotherapy.

When I shared with others that I needed to go through chemo as part of my cancer treatment, some people would become disoriented and project their fear onto me. They would say, “Oh no, you’re going to lose your hair,” but they had nothing else to offer me but their fear. This was not encouraging at all. I had my own history with cancer - my mother passed away in 2014 from cancer, an aunt was going through treatment for cancer, and another had recently completed treatment for uterine cancer.

I remember sitting there on my first day of chemotherapy, signing a paper that acknowledged the potential negative side effects. The idea of enduring 12 weeks of treatment with such fear was daunting. I said to God, I want to do something. I was not sure what I was asking for or what I wanted to do. However, God did give me something to do! He gave me the idea to create affirmations to encourage women like myself who were going through cancer treatment. The concept behind these affirmations was unique. He inspired me to take the names of various cancer treatment procedures and drugs, such as Taxol, and Herceptin, and create an acrostic of praise and worship. I quickly grabbed a pen and wrote my first one for chemo:

Call on our

Holy

Everlasting

Magnificent God.

Our help comes from Him.

So, instead of associating these treatments with fear, I began to see something comforting. Eventually, I created an affirmation journal to share with other women, and now my “I Am More Than A Conqueror” Journal is a bestseller on Amazon and is being distributed to patients in hospitals around the country! I also developed a coloring book to help cancer patients relax during treatment, as well as a devotional called Strengthen Your Faith: 15 Words of Encouragement:

A Devotional For Cancer Treatment. My latest book, “Intentional Impact: Transforming Challenges Into Triumphs - A Light-hearted Approach to Entrepreneurship and Completing Your Passion Projects,” guides individuals to complete passion projects and walk in their purpose. I want to encourage you that despite receiving a cancer diagnosis, God still wants to use your gifts, talents, and abilities. Whatever is in your heart to do, be intentional about doing it. You can make a difference in your family, your community, and the world around you!
